When Tinstar started working with Berthon Boat Company in late 2009, we knew that developing a distinct, online offering for every aspect of this multi-faceted business within a single website would be a challenge.
By the early 2020s the business had expanded into new areas (such as Versadock and BHG) and grown the three primary arms of the company – the Berthon Boatyard, Lymington Marina and Berthon Brokerage.
The latter of these three, Berthon Brokerage, has developed into Berthon International, with offices around the world in France, Spain, the USA and Sweden. This side of the business had its online presence separated from Berthon.co.uk (the main company website that continues to promote the boatyard and marina). The main reason for this was that as a business with a global offering, a .co.uk domain localised it to the UK, whereas BerthonInternational.com clearly offers an international service.
Furthermore, the brokerage houses in Rhode Island (USA) and Henån (Sweden), needed their online systems to be more closely integrated with and powered by the central UK office in Lymington, Hampshire.
Tinstar Design was asked to develop all three websites in conjunction with each other, enabling the UK administrator to publish a brokerage yacht to all three portals at the press of a button. In addition, the system allows for multilingual functionality (Berthon Scandinavia is published in both Swedish and English) as well as having an integrated currency conversion API that updates all prices daily across all three websites simultaneously.
