Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), the Rolex Fastnet Race is probably one of the best known classic offshore races in the world. The Fastnet Rock, the race’s outer marker, bears a familiar name to sailors and non-sailors alike.
The Rolex Fastnet Race website contains an enormous amount of information and, as is so often the case with large, active websites, this information had become increasing hard to locate via the navigation system. In addition to the navigation, the site’s usability had been overtaken by fast-changing technology that required a more responsive framework that would be smartphone-friendly.
It was Tinstar’s work with the RORC Rating Office that drew us to the attention of the Club, who commissioned a re-design of the visual aspects of the the site as well as a rebuild of the website framework, whilst retaining the core structure and content. The content management system through which the site is managed is Joomla. In order to best address the technical challenges of the additional functionality required, Tinstar called upon the expertise of local developer, Bluebit.
We’re so proud to have been involved in even a small way with the Fastnet Race – and we look forward to watching the start from Cowes in the summer of 2021.
